Skill Set Overview

If you’d like to work as a carer, this skill set is a great starting point. You’ll get hands-on experience in basic client care practices to be able to assist fully qualified carers in aged care and disability support services.

Completion of this skill set will give you credit towards the CHC33021 - Certificate III in Individual Support, along with other qualifications in individual support, disability support and aged care.

Delivery Method

This course is delivered by a combination of online weekly tutorials, face-to-face learning and work placement.

Course Duration

The duration of this course on average will be completed over four weeks and includes a three-day simulation block.

  • Online tutorials - 10 hrs
  • Face to face / Simulation - 32 hrs
  • Work placement - 40 hrs
  • Self-directed learning - 10 hrs

Work Placement

You will be required to complete work placement in a health service environment. Alpine Institute will organise placement within Alpine Health or other Health Services. Placement will commence following the successful completion of all assessment requirements.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to candidates 18 years of age and over.

Candidates seeking to undertake this course must have:

  • National Police Check – On commencement of this course all candidates are required to complete/have a current National Police Check within 36 months
  • Immunisation Evidence – students are required to complete the Alpine Health immunisation status form prior to enrolment. This includes COVID-19 Vaccination.
  • First Aid Certificate – Students must present a current First Aid certificate prior to enrolment.
  • Course applicants must complete a Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) test to ensure the required language, literacy and numeracy levels are met for the course.
  • Pre-training interview with education staff is required prior to enrolment.

Assessment

To achieve the qualification, the student will need to:

  • Successfully complete compulsory practical training and observation in the workplace.
  • Successfully complete all assessments including written assessments, case studies, simulation/observation, online quizzes and oral assessments.

  • There is a non-refundable amount of $150.00 required to secure enrolment, this amount counts towards your overall course cost.
