This course is delivered one day per week, over a one year period, with term breaks via classroom and work placement sessions.
Alternate duration and delivery schedules may be available depending on individual student needs. Please discuss your individual needs at the Pre Training Interview.
This course is delivered by a combination of face-to-face teaching workshops, self-study learning materials, and ongoing tutor support and mentoring. Students are required to undertake workbook activities and self-paced learning (approximately 4 hours per week).
Traineeships
Work placement will be completed at your place of employment.
Other
You will be required to complete 40 to 80 hours of work placement in a health service office environment, depending on the elective units selected. Alpine Institute will organise placement within Alpine Health or other Health Services. Placement will commence following successful completion of all units. Placement timeline options can be arranged individually to meet the student’s needs, either in blocks or single days.
Students are required to provide a Police Check and Immunisation evidence prior to work placement.
To achieve qualification, the student will need to:
- Successfully complete compulsory practical training and observation in the workplace for a minimum of 40 hours.
- Successfully complete all assessment activities including allocated tasks, projects, scenarios, case studies, questions and work books.
This course is open to candidates 17 years of age and over or Secondary School Students considering participation in VETiS program.
People with a disability are encouraged to apply for Government Subsidised training as applicable.
Candidates seeking to undertake this course must have:
- Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course
- Basic computer knowledge and ready access to a computer
- Basic internet knowledge and ready access to the internet
- National Police Check – on commencement of this course all candidates are required to complete/have a current National Police Check within 6 months
Consideration will be given to candidates who are under 17 years of age and not currently attending school however, you must provide the following documents at the time of application:
- Not completed Year 10 – Correspondence or Certificate signed by the Department of Education & Training, Regional Director.
- Completed Year 10 – Correspondence, Certificate or Transition from School Form signed by the School Principal. Note: Consent must be provided by the student and the parent /carer to sight the Transition from School Form.

The Pre Training Interview will consist of the following:
- Pre Training Review Form discussion
- Completion of a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Review to determine additional support needs and suitability to complete the course
- Assessments for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), National Recognition (NL), or Credit Transfer (CT) if applicable
- Eligibility for Government Subsidised Training
Applicants will be informed in writing and email of the outcome of their application.Successful applicants will be issued with an Enrolment Form which must be completed and returned with a non-refundable $100 administration fee. Upon receipt, a confirmation of enrolment will be issued.
The establishment of credit transfer is based on the student providing evidence of completion of the relevant units of competency.
Australian Qualifications and Statements of Attainment that have been issued by any other Registered Training Organisations will be recognised by Alpine Institute.
To apply for a Credit Transfer, Students must be able to present their original Qualification or Statement of Attainment with National codes and titles that match the current course in which they are enrolled.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the acknowledgment of skills and knowledge obtained through formal training, work experience and/or life experience. The purpose of this process is to identify and assess previously acquired skills and knowledge against the required competency standards.
Students wishing to apply for RPL must complete the RPL application form. Course participants applying for RPL must provide evidence to the satisfaction of Alpine Institute. This evidence must clearly indicate that the applicant is able to demonstrate all the required skills and knowledge.
